Free Soup for Everyone

At Souper Sunday, we believe in the power of sharing food to bring people together. We provide free, homemade soup to anyone, for any reason—no questions asked. Whether you’re in need of a meal, seeking connection, or simply love the idea of neighbors helping neighbors, you are always welcome at our table.

A Simple Idea with a Big Impact

Through the simple act of making and sharing food, we nurture both body and soul. Souper Sunday is more than just a meal—it’s a movement. We are building a growing network of people who commit to sharing food with their communities.

Join the Movement

You don’t need permission to help your community. Make soup. Share it. Change lives. We’re here to support and inspire you, whether you want to start your own Souper Sunday or simply stop by for a bowl.

Soup Kitty says, ‘Free soup for everyone’.

There is enough money, ingredients and goodwill in our town that no one should go to bed hungry.

Why We Do It

There are countless reasons why someone might struggle to afford a good meal:

Single parents balancing work and family.
Students trying to focus while running on empty.
Elders who need a little extra care.
Artists & musicians enriching our world while making ends meet.
Hardworking people priced out of their basic needs.
Anyone who simply needs a warm meal and a welcoming space.

No matter your income, background, or beliefs, food connects us—it always has.

The Sacred Circle

We believe in ‘the sacred circle of giving and receiving’, in which accepting a meal is as important as making a meal. We could not do this if no one showed up. The acceptance of a meal encourages one to be involved and contribute ingredients which in turn benefits the whole community. Neighbor helping neighbor.

We provide free soup to anyone for any reason regardless of income, country of origin, political affiliation, religion, how one identifies or anything that tries to divide us. The act of making and sharing food is a time tested way to connect people. It transcends the powers that work to divide us.

Please join us. I guarantee it will improve your life and bring you into the community you deserve.

How Souper Sunday Came to Be

“For a time, there in Chris Hyde’s home on Bigelow Avenue in Olympia, he felt isolated. Detached somehow from everything. He uses the words “borderline depressed” to describe that time. Then one day Hyde had an idea, ‘That giving soup away, for free, to your community was going to really do something.’

That was the big idea. Giving soup away for free. Watch the video.

How It Works

  1. I post to the Souper Sunday Facebook Group that a meal is available and what the request window is, usually an hour from the time I post.
  2. You respond to the post with your request. (There are often more requests than meals available, so I can’t guarantee to get you a meal every time, but I do my best).
  3. I confirm your request by saying “Out there for you in 5” and then I put your meal out front in the red cooler.
  4. You must check back to make sure I approved, and pick up your meal by 8:00 PM. (Facebook notifications are not reliable so you must check back to the post manually). Don’t make a request unless you know 100% you can pick up your meal.
  5. I really hate throwing food away. Unless you have a clear emergency, if you fail to pick up your meal I will suspend you from the group for 28 days. If it happens a second time I will permanently remove you from the group.
  6. You enjoy a healthy, delicious free meal.

Other Services

Delivery

Under certain circumstances, group members may be able to deliver soup to you within a reasonable distance. Please message me to make that request and I’ll do my best to get it delivered to you. We cover downtown Olympia and the east side.

For the Food Insecure

Meals are available to anyone who wants or needs them, but if you are food insecure and really need some food I keep basic boxes of non-perishable ingredients on hand that you can prepare yourself. I can often pair these with meat and/or vegetables that I may have on hand. Again, message me directly and let me know what your situation is.

Frozen Foods

We also have frozen soups available most of the time that you can request whenever you need a meal. Just message me through Facebook and I’ll let you know when you can pick it up.
